History of New Jersey

COURSE GUIDE

Course Description: The History of New Jersey is a survey of the history of the state and its people from the colonial era to the present. Emphasis will be on political, economic and social events of the state's history.

Goals of the Course

To foster an interest in state and local history and encourage historical inquiry about New Jersey and its communities.

To encourage students to take pride in the state in which they reside or attend college.

To provide future teachers with the resources to teach the history of New Jersey and its relationship to American history.

To demonstrate how state history may compliment the liberal arts program with an understanding of New Jersey's cultural heritage.

Readings and Responsibilities for Course

Students will retrieve articles and documents from the online sites found on the course chronology and read print materials distributed in class. Attendance is taken at the opening of class, and preparation for class participation from study questionsand are required.

Withdrawal from Course: A student may officially withdraw from the course and receive a final grade of W only by completing a form in the Office of the Registrar.

Examinations: There will be two (2) exams in the course.

Written Assignment: Each student will be responsible for a paper. Details will follow.
